Is Art a Waste of Time?

“Does your preferred good deed make as much of a difference as simply handing over the money? If not, how good a deed is it really?”

I think this is a really interesting and complex thought, but I don’t agree with it. Think that even small things make big differences. For example, Im pretty sure that a homeless or suffering person would appreciate an apple or a pizza almost, if not more, than some of your money. My philosophy is closer to, something small with good intentions is better than nothing at all. I like the idea that you should be doing more than anyone else in your position could do, but I also believe that self-happiness is important too. Not because I am selfish, but because you can’t influence other people to find happiness without finding your own.

“Everyone can be doing more than they currently are”

Although this is true, I like to truly believe that everyone is doing the best they can. That everyone is working to be the best at something. Additionally, money is not the only way to make people happy. I think its unreasonable that I got the vibe that people believe that. Raising awareness and getting others to become involved in small ways can add up just as much as handing over cash to the needy. I believe that awareness is almost as important as large deeds. You can’t save the world alone, so why make others, such as artists, feel like their work isn’t good enough just because it is impacting in a different, smaller way. At least its making a difference.
